Types of ID Cards/Application for Airport ID Cards

Applications for ID Cards must be submitted to the Airport ID Card Service Center in writing. To do so, please use the available electronic forms. You can send the fully completed and signed digital application including annexes (photocopy of your national ID card or passport and, where applicable, training documents) by e-mail in PDF format (combined in a single document) to flughafenausweise@fraport.de.

If you wish to send a password-protected file, please contact the stated e-mail address in advance.

Unfortunately, we do not process handwritten applications.

All stated details must match the officially registered details (e.g. multiple forenames as per national ID card) of the applicant.

To apply for an ID Card online, the company must register in the ID web portal  (available in German only).  A form is generated in this process, which you should please complete, sign, and return to flughafenausweise@fraport.de in PDF format. As soon as processing at the Airport ID Card Service Center is complete, you will receive an e-mail with the access data you need for the online application. Please note that, at present, only personal permanent ID Cards can be applied for via the web portal.

The airport has areas with different access requirements. The area for which an ID Card is valid is denoted by its color. This relates to Airport ID Cards as well as Vehicle ID Cards and Visitor ID Cards. The Airport ID Cards are granted various access rights in association with the color of the ID card.

The ID Card you are issued with will depend on where you are working at the airport. Information on other types of ID Card and additional authorizations can be found in the ID Card Regulations.

Contact your company with regard to this. There are authorized signatories there who must sign the application form (Part B).

Anyone performing activities in the airside areas (ID Card colors green + L, red, blue, and yellow) must undergo a background check.

In the state of Hesse, the Frankfurt Police Headquarters is responsible for the performance of the background check. The personal details are checked by various government agencies. This requires the disclosure of residential addresses and periods of (non-)employment/periods of training in the last five years.  The (non-) periods of   employment or training must be accompanied by appropriate supporting documents.

Frankfurt Police Headquarters requires a certificate of good conduct for people who have lived and/or worked outside Germany during this period. This must be enclosed with the application.

As soon as you need access to the airside areas (green +L, red, blue and yellow ID Cards), you must pass a valid background check as per Section 7 of the Aviation Security Act. We can apply for a background check on your behalf at the responsible government agency.

It is  required for the initiation of the background check at Frankfurt Police  Headquarters if no suitable evidence is available or can be obtained as proof  of employment.

A voucher  substitute is a substitute document and can be provided as an alternative to  proof of (non-) employment or training periods as part of the background check.

The  interviewing entity is the applying company.

Please fill  out the document digitally and provide the personal data analogous to the ZVÜ  application.

For each  employment, a separate form "Interviewnachweise als Belegersatz" is  required.

For the purpose of the background check my personal data will be forwarded to the responsible aviation security authority, Police Headquarters Frankfurt am Main, processed and stored. In  addition, a data alignment is performed for this purpose on the basis of the  copy of my EU ID card or passport that was made available by me (see below).

In the event of an inconsistency  between the data provided on the airport ID card application and the data  specified on the copy of the valid EU ID card or passport accompanying my  application, the data specified on the valid EU ID card or passport shall  prevail and may be forwarded to the responsible aviation security authority.  The copy of the valid EU ID card or passport will be destroyed within Fraport's  area of responsibility at the latest after the notification about the results of  the background check.

If a background check was performed via Fraport AG in the context of the ID Card application, it will be automatically initiated again in time before it expires. If the previous background check was performed directly in another German state or by the Hesse Aviation Security Authority and recognized in Frankfurt, an application to extend the individual’s background check must be made to us or instigated separately at the previous government agency. If initiation via Fraport AG is desired, please fill out the “Addendum to personal data for the initiation of the background check”. The form is available here.

Security training is required for entry into the airside areas (red, blue and yellow ID Cards). You will automatically receive the essential information when applying for an ID Card. The access details for online training will be sent to the applying company by mail. If you have any questions about “aviation security training,” please contact flughafenausweise@fraport.de.

Basic safety training is required for entry to the apron (red and yellow ID Cards). You will automatically receive the essential information when applying for an ID Card. The access details for online training will be sent to the applying company by mail. If you have any questions about “basic safety training,” please contact safety-schulung@fraport.de.

Processing of an ID Card valid for the operational area usually takes around two weeks. For ID Cards that require a background check, processing takes approximately four weeks.

These are average processing times where there may be deviations. Basically, your company will be informed about a completed processing by e-mail.

As soon as processing is complete, the applying company automatically receives a pick-up notification from the Airport ID Card Service Center by e-mail. Please refrain from inquiring about the status of your application.

For the extension of Airport ID Cards, the “Airport ID Card application” must be completed again. Companies can submit these ID Card applications online via the web portal for Airport ID Cards  (available in German only).

Yes, this is possible. You will receive a separate Airport ID Card for each activity. For a “further activity,”   the company that wishes to contract you must submit an “Airport ID Card application form.” In this case, application type “further activity” must be selected in “Section B” of the application form. Your company will be informed as soon as processing is complete.

Please bring your current Airport ID Card when you are issued the additional ID Card.

Application Approval

Please print out the digitally completed application form and send it with all required signatures including annexes (combined in one document) by e-mail in PDF format to flughafenausweise@fraport.de. If you wish to send a password-protected file, please contact the stated e-mail address in advance.

As soon as the processing of the application is complete, your company will receive a pick-up notification from us by e-mail. We need around two weeks to process an ID Card valid the operational area. For all Airport ID Cards that require a background check, please expect a processing time of around four weeks, as the background check is performed by the Hesse Aviation Security Authority. Unfortunately, we cannot speed up this process.
